Job Title: Classroom Assistant
Program: George Crothers Memorial School
Location: 401 Rutgers Avenue, Swarthmore, PA
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, school year calendar (September – June)
Position Description: The George Crothers Memorial School is seeking full-time floater classroom assistants to work in our special education program. Positions work with school aged students with multiple physical and intellectual disabilities. Responsible for supervision, personal care and individualized instruction. EOE

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Flexibility and reliability
  • Experience working with children is preferred
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds, bend, twist and turn
  • Clear Criminal History, Child Abuse and FBI Background Clearances

Job Title: Music Education Teacher

Program: Ungraded self-contained special education program

Location:401 Rutgers Avenue, Swarthmore PA 19081

Schedule: Monday to Friday, regular school calendar, September through June

Position Description: The George Crothers Memorial School is seeking a part-time or full-time Music Education Teacher who will plan an appropriate Music Educational Program that will meet the individual needs and abilities of students with varying degrees of disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain compliance with all PDE regulatory requirements and Agency policies and procedures
  • Appropriately assesses each student to plan and implement an appropriate Music education program
  • Use innovative approaches, best practices, and instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies to increase student learning and confidence to learn
  • Implement and evaluate the success of appropriate music curriculum and quality instructional techniques
  • Maintain documentation of student progress monitoring as needed
  • Consistently facilitate student participation in all educational activities including assemblies, special events, etc.
  • Follow assigned schedule and assist assigned classrooms during special activities which may occur during Music time
  • Consistent supervision of students- students are never to be unattended unless documented by the IEP
  • May be required to provide supervision and assistance during non-music class times including bus transitions, meals, recess/leisure, personal care, and other areas/times when needed
  • Maintain positive effective classroom management, which includes supervision of paraeducators and assigned 1:1 personal. Must be able to set clear expectations and hold staff accountable by providing meaning feedback and follow up as needed. Must maintain a clean and orderly learning environment and office area.
  • Work efficiently and effectively within an interdisciplinary team and maintains the ability to implement strategies developed by the team
  • Clearly communicate and remain solution-focused with supervisor, team, students, and families
  • All paperwork must be completed on time, including but not limited to; Lesson Plans, Observation & Evaluation Forms, Work Orders, etc.
  • Prepare lesson plans & activities to be used by a substitute & share with classroom teachers
  • Participate in Agency professional development opportunities and attend all staff & team meetings on time
  • Check email daily throughout the workweek for information and updates.
  • Work assignments may be scheduled at more than one site- Must be able to transport to other locations when required to do so
  • Willingness to perform other duties as requested by the direct supervisor

Minimum Requirements/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, Special Education, or related field
  • Instructional I or II Teacher Certification by the Pennsylvania Department of Education preferred
  • Acceptable PA State Police, Child Abuse and FBI Background Clearances

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • Maintain & apply knowledge of modern teaching methods, principles & curriculum
  • Ability to supervise staff and students
  • Ability to maintain good classroom management and discipline
  • Strong organizational skills- ability to write, read, and analyze reports and maintain accurate records
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, projects, assignments
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere while presenting in a professional manner. Must establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with all staff, students, and student families
